Mr. Espresso’s Organic Ethiopia Shantawene, Natural Process is a 2022 Good Food Awards Winner.
We are thrilled by today’s news! This coffee was named a Good Food Awards Winner – one of only 15 coffees across the nation.
The Good Food Awards are an initiative of the Good Food Foundation, formed “to celebrate, connect, empower, and leverage passionate local food makers, ranchers, and growers who are creating tasty, authentic, and responsible food in the American food culture.”
The Awards highlight the exceptional food crafters who top the charts in a Blind Tasting and meet the environmental and social responsibility standards of the Good Food Awards. Food products fall into one of 18 categories with three category winners in each region – North, South, East, West and Central. In 2022, nearly 2,000 submissions were received, representing all 50 states.
We are particularly proud of our VP of Coffee, John Di Ruocco, for the honor this well-sourced and well-produced coffee has earned. With this winner, John has to his credit four Good Food Awards Winners and six finalists over two categories, the Coffee category for Mr. Espresso and in the Oil category for his own Capay Valley grown and produced Jackrabbit California Olive Oil.
This award would not be possible without our source for these exceptional beans – Daye Bensa Coffee and their farmers of Shantawene Village in Ethiopia’s Sidama Region. Daye Bensa passion lifts up their growers, their community, their land. Their commitment results in superb, sustainably produced beans that really shine with this coffee.
Along with our Organic Ethiopia Shantawene, our Organic Guatemala CODECH – Women’s Lot was also one of the Good Food Awards Finalist Coffees. Mr. Espresso is one of two coffee roasters in the country to have more than one product reach this level of recognition in the Good Food Awards.
We are grateful to the Good Food Foundation and the Coffee judging team. We are truly honored.
The Good Food Awards come to the Bay Area, March 3rd-4th. The Good Food Mercantile, an industry market for retailers to connect with food crafters, is scheduled for Thursday, March 3rd at the Metreon. The Awards Ceremony, a ticketed event open to the public, follows the next day, Friday, March 4th at the Palace of Fine Arts. Go here for more information on these and other Good Food Foundation events.
