“We try to bring in creative flavors and present flavor profiles that are accessible and delicious.” — Luigi Di Ruocco

The Fourth Wave of Coffee Is Iced

Writer Emily Caldwell at The Manual, an online lifestyle magazine, wrote recently about the transformation of iced coffee. In the past, iced coffee was nothing more than brewed coffee poured over ice. But in the era of what coffee experts call the “fourth wave of coffee,” coffee drinkers are looking for something beyond a standard cup of coffee, focusing on cultural stories, unique flavors, and visual appeal.

In response, coffee brands like Mr. Espresso are leveraging new mixology techniques and creative twists, creating a multi-sensory experience that meets the changing demands of today’s coffee drinkers. At The Caffè by Mr. Espresso in downtown Oakland, visitors can find ingredient-driven cold and iced drinks on the regular menu, like Tiger Coffee, Cold Brew Tonic, and The Shakerato, as well as limited-time specials in collaboration with local chefs, like Lion Dance Cafe’s Pandan Coco Egg Cream, Cafe Colucci’s Brundo Sp’iced Mocha, and Chef Denise Huynh’s Vietnamese Egg Coffee.

Says Luigi Di Ruocco, “We work extra hard to make sure the components are balanced and to ensure that the final taste is delicious.”
