OUR IMPACT
Supporting food equity locally and globally.
Roots Run Deep represents our commitment to fighting food insecurity, expanding opportunity, and strengthening the Oakland community we proudly call home.
We direct 20% of all revenue from our signature Seven Bridges Blend—named for the bridges connecting our diverse Bay Area communities—directly into the Roots Run Deep Fund.
Through this fund, we proudly support organizations driving real change across the region, including:
Chef Collabs
At our flagship coffee bar, The Caffè by Mr. Espresso in downtown Oakland, we regularly team up with local chefs to craft innovative, limited-edition specialty drinks inspired by flavors from around the globe.
These collaborations do more than celebrate local culinary talent—they directly nourish our neighbors. 10% of sales from every Chef Collab is donated to Oakland’s Community Kitchens. Since opening in 2023, we’ve raised over $6,500 to support their mission of providing freshly prepared, dignified meals to marginalized communities.
Beyond direct giving, we actively support local non-profits, galas, and community fundraisers by donating coffee, espresso service, and event sponsorships.
We are proud to frequently partner with and support:
An Colorful Tribute to the Town We Call Home
As an outward display of our love for Oakland, a vibrant mural, "Roots Run Deep," brightens the exterior of our headquarters. Created by artist David "Meggs" Hooke as an homage to the Jack London district, the artwork references the past, present, and future faces of Oakland as a landmark of local pride and creative expression. It reflects the spirit of our neighborhood—honoring the interplay between global coffee culture, urban artistry, and the deep roots connecting us to the Bay Area.
Born in Melbourne, Australia, David is a mural, street and fine artist recognized for his large scale murals and detailed paintings that combine elements of nature, industry and abstraction to create imagery that evokes a sense of flowing movement and change. His art practice began as founding member of the EVERFRESH Studio (circa. 2003), which is now regarded as one of Australia’s most influential street art collectives.
Fair and equitable sourcing is a cornerstone of the Mr. Espresso coffee program. As a macro roaster, we take responsibility for our impact on the coffee-producing communities with whom we work. We advocate for systems and certifications that support economic sustainability, human empowerment and equity, responsible community development, and environmental stewardship.
We engage with producers through a combination of direct trade partnerships and third-party certifications, including Fair Trade, Certified Organic, and Regenerative Organic Certified® products. Our collaborations with importers and brokers, such as Royal Coffee and Sustainable Harvest, are built on shared values across the supply chain, with sustainability at the core.
We also embrace emerging technologies designed to strengthen value and increase transparency across supply chains. Tools like Fairtrade America’s Partner Portal track historical account data, while platforms like the virtual Green Coffee Marketplace create direct opportunities for producers who might otherwise remain under the radar.
